JOB OVERVIEW:
Repair and perform alterations on employee uniforms as well as perform repairs on guest clothing.
REPORTS TO: Director of Housekeeping, Housekeeping Manager, Laundry/Dry Cleaning Supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
Essential:
- Fluency in job related English, both verbal and non-verbal.
- Compute basic mathematical calculations (add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers in processing charges).
- Extensive knowledge of sewing repair work.
- Provide legible communication and directions.
- Ability to:
Understand and anticipate guests’ service needs.
Interact courteously and professionally with guests and staff members.
be well organized, maintain concentration and think clearly.

Take directions and follow through.
Perform job functions without constant direct supervision.
Work cohesively with other staff members as part of a team.
Desirable:
- High school graduate or equivalent vocational training.
- Experience in similar position.
- Previous guest relations training.
- Knowledge of sewing machine mechanics.
- Ability to communicate in second language, preferably Spanish.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES
Essential:
- Exert physical effort in transporting 25 pounds.
- Endure various physical movements throughout the work areas.
- Reach 6 feet.
- Remain in stationary position for 8 hours throughout work shift.
- Satisfactorily communicate with guests, management and co-workers to their understanding.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies/service procedures/standards.
- Maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment. Use equipment only as intended.
- Anticipate guests’ needs, respond promptly and acknowledge all guests, however busy and whatever time of day.
- Maintain positive guest relations at all times.
- Resolve guest complaints, ensuring guest satisfaction.
- Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation and organization of assigned work areas.
- Handle guest-pressing requests/alteration of garments.
- Verify items to be pressed against laundry/pressing slip.
- Inspect, tag and record items to be pressed.
- Tag and repair damaged garments from guests and employees.
- Operate pressing machine or iron.
- Press and fold guest and employee garments.
- Alter new uniforms for employees.
- Organize and hang all cleaned employee uniforms.
- Clean all machines and equipment daily.
- Complete and file paperwork daily as required.
- Monitor and maintain designated supply levels.
- Re-stock all supplies and advise next shift of all pertinent information.
- Legibly document information on uniform slips and distribute accurately.
- Monitor and maintain the orderly and clean condition of the seamstress room.
- Remove substandard uniforms from circulation.
- Process guest requests for pressing of clothes as assigned.
- Coordinate repairs for uniforms.
- Report all shortages, damages, maintenance requests, problems and linen/uniform availability to manager.
SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS
- Prepare a list of supplies to be ordered on a weekly basis.
- Complete special projects involving mending/sewing as assigned.
